What I did, and what I learned

My first career was in retail management. I was an expert in using computer applications that merged inventory control and marketing data to create profitable merchandise presentation plans. In these jobs, I learned how to:

  • Analyze sales and marketing data to create profitable merchandise plans.
  • Clearly communicate complex merchandise action plans to the store management teams that had to implement them.
  • Maintain productive working relationships with other internal teams, vendors, and contractors.

As the retail businesses consolidated,  I started looking for a new career. I found that my data analysis and communication skills easily transferred to the digital world.

In my second career, I learned how to:

  • Work with clients to build and maintain mini-websites in WordPress or Drupal.
  • Monitor web traffic and events, identify trends, and produce action plans to take advantage of opportunities.
  • Produce video and web content that met government accessibility standards.
  • Work with subject matter experts to create and manage web content in accordance with an editorial calendar
  • Quickly acquire new skills or adapt existing skills to meet new client requirements.
